VOC volunteers planting shrubs on a work day

Full Duck always had a good time following volunteers and staff around
Colorado to collect footage of plans, projects and the fun of people
working together to accomplish great feats. Volunteers for Outdoor
Colorado, a model organization for unleashing weekend warrior power,
leads armies of citizens into city parks and the Colorado wilderness to
improve trails and campgrounds for greater public access. Full Duck
produced several videos to supply motivation to participate and
training to participants.
Challenge: Create low-budget training and promotional videotapes of VOC programs. Capture the complex organizing abilities of VOC, the enthusiasm of the many volunteers VOC attracts at each worksite and the benefit to Colorado public lands.
Solution: Full Duck Productions attended many VOC work days and videotaped the process of building trails, planting trees and constructing boardwalks and rock walls. Full Duck collected hours of cutaway material of volunteers who provided the labor on the VOC projects and interviewed volunteers using projects as backgrounds. Full Duck consulted with VOC to determine which videos they needed. First, Full Duck wrote a script for a promotional video and worked with a professional broadcaster to narrate it. Then Full Duck produced a promotional tape showing the planning for the 10,000 Trees Project, the enthusiastic volunteers working on the project, and the final celebration party afterwards. Next Full Duck worked with VOC organizers to plan training tapes for various skills to train crew leaders. Full Duck made candid videotapes of trainers demonstrating the steps and new crew leaders practicing them. Finally, Full Duck edited the final training tapes together with character graphics, close ups and action shots that illustrated the entire process of the skills. The tapes have been used for many years to give new crew leaders an overall view of skills before hands-on training sessions.
